Estimote, Inc. is building a digital platform that delivers context and micro-location to phones and other smart devices. The platform includes both wireless sensors, called Estimote Beacons that were entirely designed, developed and manufactured by the company, as well as a software layer that allows these beacons to communicate and exchange data with nearby smartphones. Currently, the company is focused on distributing the platform to major retail stores. Beacons installed in retail stores are able to trigger contextual actions and messages on shoppers' phones, delivering a new type of in-store experience and consumer/brand engagement. The Estimote API allows retailers or brands to easily integrate and add real-world context to their retail apps, building a new generation of indoor navigation, loyalty apps or even contactless payments.
